Load Based Server Monitoring

  • Hi,

In my Icinga Setup I monitor regular AWS EC2 instances, this works fine.

Additional I have load based ec2 servers, if the load reaches a defined limit AWS starts this servers.

Now I want also to monitor these servers but if the are turned of I dont want to get alerts.

I was thinking to alert only for these servers if the turned on but I think this is a bad approach because

it could possible that the servers is not reachable but should be turned on.

    Has anyone a different idea?

    Thanks

  • you could create a dependency to some host or dummy, or to be do it the easy way, exclude them from your default notifications and create a seperate notification for them that is not being sent, when they go down.

Linux is dead, long live Linux

Remember to NEVER EVER use git repositories in a productive environment if you CAN NOT control them

How do you get the information that a server "should be turned on" ?

Perhaps You could feed that into some kind of passive check result ?
