Push notifications on Discourse

Hi,

I’ve added a plugin which allows for push notifications here on Discourse (with a recent version of Chrome and Firefox).

This must be explicitly enabled in your browser and can be done via the overlay introduction.

Play around with it, and let me know how it goes

Cheers,
Michael

There are now Desktop and Push notification settings in my preferences. Can somebody explain the difference to me?

AFAIK you’ll need a plugin for desktop notifications, and it requires you to keep the browser tab open.

I’ve never bothered with desktop notifications to be honest.

Push notifications also work if the tab is closed, and don’t require extra plugins for Chrome/FF. Technically Discourse runs as Ruby on rails app where the service workers will wake up and push these notifications.
