  • Hi everyone,

I am currently using the default login page of Nagvis (customized the logo to make it more 'ours'), and the authentication set to the default SQLite. My plan is to change the authentication mode to use Windows AD/LDAP instead of the default, and in the near future, use single-sign on authentication. I understand that this can be done using the Apache authentication but the users would like to see the login page instead of a gray box so now I am stuck to changing the authentication WHILE retaining the pretty login page. However, I am now at a dead-end. The Nagvis documentation says that the authentication and authorisation modules, and quote:

"It is possible to add own authentication modules for supporting other authentication mechanism. For details have a look at the authentication module documentation."

Following the link to where the answer lies, the page was empty. Searched through the docs in the installer still leads to nowhere. So here are my questions:

    1) Has anyone tried using AD or LDAP authentication in Nagvis and succeeded in doing so?
    2) What is the difference between Authentication and Authorisation? (The documentation that I read did not differentiate the two).
    3) Why is the doc page blank?
Finally, 4) Where can I get more information on how to change the authentication mode of Nagvis?

Thanks to all in advance! :)

Yes, using the apache module mod_auth_ldap.

Nothing NagVis special here. Consider asking google.

The official docs or the code are best sources for these information.

  • Hi Lars,

Yes, using the apache module mod_auth_ldap.

If I use the Apache module, will I still be able to get the login page (and not the gray box that pops-out)? As I understand the config file, the pretty login page gets disabled once I use the Apache module instead of the default SQLite module. I have attached a screenie of the pretty login page I am talking about.

    Screenshot please?

Hmm.. Screenshot is unnecessary, I think. Just follow this link and let me know if you also get a blank page.

But the docs are empty (unless I am seeing differently. If that is the case, I am blaming my browser).

When using auth modules in apache the modules will ask for the credentials using browser native user/password dialogs. Once authed the REMOTE_USER env var is filled.
If using LogonMixed (default) NagVis uses the username from the env var REMOTE_USER once set. If none is set it displays the logon dialog defined in LogonDialog.

Ok. Got it. Check out the 1.6 docs for more details: http://docs.nagvis.org/1.6/en_US/index.html
