    It eventually chilled out. Perhaps I just wasn't patient enough post-upgrade; however I'm pretty sure the box grinded to a halt for more than an hour before the rebuild. Is there something I can do in the config to stagger these service checks?

    @dnsmichi, I've resolved the issue. If we pass the API call argument in customized definition of check_http in /etc/nagios/nrpe.cfg file and then refer that command in service definition, it will work. We can now mark it as resolved.

    Same problem happens to me today after updating icinga2 via YUM. After updating the database scheme its starting again. Thanks a lot for the solution :)

    No one will blame you for that, you found the solutions by yourself. If you Upgrade Icinga, always check the Changelog for the current version, there's always a hint when the DB-Schema changed. -> Changelog -> IDO Introduction

    Probably a good idea to pass only url encoded values. I have no idea if nrpe strips out any characters itself. I'd suggest to replace nrpe with the icinga 2 client on the long run.
